World Gourmet Summit 2009

Brought wife to Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel for a Le Cordon Bleu dinner... one of the dinner events of the World Gourmet Summit 2009 in Singapore.

The World Gourmet Summit (WGS) is an international gastronomic extravaganza jointly organised by Peter Knipp Holdings Pte Ltd (PKH) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). If I remember correctly this event has been around for about 12 years and is a once a year event. This is the first time that we attended this WGS dinner event.

It was a four hour dinner event from 7 to 11pm. The atmosphere is good. The wines were excellent. Most of the dishes were great... except for the one with Sea Urchin, Lobster, Caviar, Curry, etc combination. I thought that dish was a bit too ambitious and very strong mixture of flavours.

Each dish was paired with a recommended wine, a total of seven different wines (white & red) were served that night.

The 1st appertiser was Foie gras, quite nicely done and tasted good. I love the white wine (2006 Georges Duboeuf, Beaujolais Blanc) that was paired with the appertiser... very fruity and sweet. The banker sitted beside me requested a second glass for me, that was very nice of him.

The 2nd appertiser was the Sea Urchin, Lobster, Calviar, etc combo... too strong a taste for most people. Saving grace was the white wine went very well with this dish. Was using the paired wine to wash it down after each bite.

The 3rd appertiser (or soup?) was Sea bass with clams. More like a small dish of seafood than a soup dish, not much water in it. Tasted good.

Sorbet was served, I guess is to clean up the palate. Delicious.

Main course was Veal. Excellent and nicely done. The meat dropped off from the bone easily. Like this one. The paired red wine went well with this dish too.

Dessert was chocolate mousse with vanilla ice-cream. Can never go wrong with this, tasted good.

Told myself that in future will bring my wife to at least one of these World Gourmet Summit dinners each year.
